800m semifinal
By her standards, Luka ran well. She clocked her season best time of 1
minute, 59.69 seconds but it wasn’t enough to take her through to the
final. The last of the eight qualifiers had a timing of 1:59.45. Luka
was good, but others were better.
PT Usha also pointed out lack of high-level competition as a reason for
Luka not doing so well at top meets against the best athletes. “There is
very little competition in India to keep Tintu occupied. We have to
travel a lot to take part in big tournaments and sometimes, it becomes
difficult to do that logistically. That is hurting her a lot,” Usha
said.
I have not understood the thinking of P T Usha.
ReplyDeleteIt has been observed that Tintu Luka is best upto 400 meters and she loses her steam after that and gets fully tired by the time she reaches 800.
Why is P T Usha insisting Tintu on running for 800 meters ? Why not 400 meters ? Is it to protect her own fame that she had in 400 M,400 M hurdles,100 M,110 M Hurdles, etc ?
Look at Gopichand,he is training Prakash and Saina in singles badminton and wants them to win olympic medal which he himself could not achieve. He is not telling them to play doubles or mixed doubles. And success is here to see for all.
I think P.T.Usha should have second thought and change the event of Tintu Luka and train her to compete in 400 meters where P T Usha herself had been a legend and had finished closed 4th in olympic finals.
We need strategic long term planning considering our potential to achieve olympic glory...
